Volunteering

Would you like to join our friendly team?

You can give as much or as little time as you choose.  At whatever time of day suits you best.  We are always looking for the following:

Minibus Drivers

Volunteer drivers support local groups hiring our buses.

    • We provide volunteer drivers for any of the local groups hiring our buses who don’t have a driver of their own.
    • Full training to the nationally recognised MiDAS (Minibus Drivers Awareness Scheme) qualification is available.  Drives can be from as little as an hour to a full day trip – you choose.
    • You may be asked to drive for a local lunch club, a trip to the theatre, a museum or historic building, or a run into the Dales.
    • Drivers are often invited to participate in the group’s activity.
    • If you’re not sure about driving a minibus, contact the office to arrange a test drive.
Minibus Assistants

Assistants are needed for some journeys to help less able passengers.

    • We provide assistants on some trips to help passengers on and off the bus safely, helping with seatbelts and carrying shopping.
    • Appropriate training will be given.
Car Drivers

Providing lifts for local residents to medical appointments

    • We provide lifts for residents in Ilkley and Ben Rhydding for medical appointments.
    • Volunteers use their own cars and can claim a mileage allowance.  Acting in a voluntary capacity should be permitted by your insurers and not affect your annual premium.
    • A clean driving licence is preferable but not essential.
    • You may advise the times you are available and choose how often you drive.
Office Volunteers

Helping at the heart of the organisation

Our Transport Coordinator  manages our activities, but help is always needed with the everyday office tasks which include:

  • Taking bookings and handling requests for lifts
  • Handling phone and office visitor enquiries
  • General Administration

We share our offices with Ilkley Good Neighbours and Community Action, so you would be part of a friendly team.

How do I volunteer?

If you want more details and to discuss the opportunities, please contact the office.

Our volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds, but all share an interest in the rewards to be had from helping others.

Minibus drivers will need to have or complete the MiDAS training.  Other training, appropriate to the role will be provided.

As our volunteers will be in contact with vulnerable people an enhanced DBS check will be required.  We can organise this free of charge.

As part of the application we will require details of persons who will provide a reference.
